Selling a yacht

We are member of Sea Independent, founded in 2010 by Marcel Borgmann as a global network of yacht brokers. Based on his previous experience as General Director of the Contest Group and founder of Contest Brokerage, Marcel knew that close and efficient cooperation between yacht brokers worldwide is the key to successful sales of high quality yachts.

The network currently consists of more than 35 yacht brokerage companies around the globe and is certified by the European Maritime Certification Institute (EMCI). We are present in all major yachting centres of this world and are still expanding.

Sea Independent operates as “Central Agent” for its clients. This means that your Sea Independent yacht broker will act as your exclusive and central representative, fully taking care of your interests only. At the same time your yacht will be offered by all partners within the Sea Independent Network, to achieve worldwide coverage. This unique approach enables us to offer a worldwide sales network with which more leads can be generated.

So in short, by signing one central agreement, you actually get the services of more than 35 yacht brokers worldwide, that work closely together as a team to sell your yacht at the best possible price. Our fee amounts to 8% ex VAT with a minimum term of 18 months.

The Sea Independent network currently consists of more than 35 yacht brokerage companies around the globe. The headoffice of Sea Independent is located in Hoorn, the Netherlands. All Partner companies operate primarily under the Sea Independent name and each have a co-mediation agreement with the head office.

In addition to the Sea Independent websites, the agents in our network list the yachts on their own websites. They are styled in the same way, are in the English and the local language, list the same yachts (automatically) and are fully responsive. Visitors can easily request a brochure with detailed specifications of any yacht advertised on the Sea Independent websites.

We are also present on all the major yacht-for-sale portal in the world: yachtworld.com, rightboat.com, theyachtmarket.com, boatshop24.com, cosasdebarcos.com, yachtfocus.com, hiswamakelaar.nl, nlyachts.com, hiswa.nl, boats.com, boat24.com.

Of course we keep our followers on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages up-to-date with our latest developments. This is additionally accentuated by a monthly newsletter to all our clients, and specifically targeted e-mail campaigns to selected buyers.

Weekly, yacht owners receive an email with statistics on how many times their yachts are viewed on the internet, thus providing them with an almost real-time progress report.

Last, but not least, we make extensive use of paid internet advertising. This highly successful marketing channel is used for general traffic generation towards our websites as well as for specific yachts.

Over the years Sea Independent has accumulated a large database of potential yacht buyers and organized that in a CRM system. We use this system extensively to actively offer your yacht to buyers specifically interested in this type of yacht.

Sea Independent Financial Security

Sea Independent strictly separates money involved in the sales transactions from its operational bank accounts by means of an escrow account. This escrow account is managed by a foundation whose only purpose is to securely manage the financial part of a sales agreement. This means that transactions carried out by or via Sea Independent are 100% safe and secure.

Sea Independent EMCI / HISWA certified Yachtbrokerage

The European Maritime Certification Institute certifies maritime professionals in Europe and is itself ISO 9001 certified by Lloyds. It has strict guidelines on conduct and knowledge and uses a system of obligatory permanent education. The EMCI/Hiswa certification of Sea Independent guarantees our clients safety, security and highly trained, skilled and knowledgeable brokers. Transparency and regular communication with our clients is pivotal in providing the highest level of service possible.

About Elmar Teeuwen

Elmar developed his yacht marketing skills at some of the most successful yacht brokerage companies and became an EMCI certified Yacht Broker & Appraiser.
He has built up an extensive network in the yachting world, also as a result of running his offshore sailing school, established in 2001.
Moreover, Elmar has been a certified online marketing specialist, which techniques he now applies in his yacht marketing activities.
To his opinion the internet is today's sales marina and second to none online presence is essential in his approach.
In addition to his native language Dutch, Elmar speaks English, German and Italian.
His knowledge and network could be off great value to anyone who is bringing a yacht on the market.
